Far from its source in the heart of the Cantabrian Mountains, the Nalón arrives resting at its mouth before diluting itself in the sea, near the Villa de Pravia. The valley offers a pleasant river landscape around which fertile orchards are combined with a rich cultural heritage that allows you to discover the history of the region, from the high Middle Ages to the elegant villas of Indians of the early twentieth century.   

Old town and court of the Asturian Monarchy, Pravia is a relaxed city whose historic centre offers a monumental complex that gives a good account of its stately past. Founded as a town in the thirteenth century, the fishing and fluvial wealth allowed Pravia its commercial development as a maritime town whose splendour would occur later, in the eighteenth century.   The Baroque architecture of the time constitutes a remarkable heritage and is represented in the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, the Palacio de Moutas or the Town Hall of the town. 

A few kilometres away, is the Church of San Juan in Santianes, a jewel of the Pre-Romanesque built in the eighth century by order of King Silo who had previously moved the court of the Asturian kingdom from Cangas de Onís to Pravia. It is, without a doubt, an ideal complementary visit to the PRE-ROMANESQUE SET OF NARANCO.       

The Nalón has been, undoubtedly, the main source of wealth in this region. Throughout history, the inhabitants have benefited from this gift of nature by cultivating the fertile plains and fishing for salmon in its waters. Currently, it is possible to make the descent in CANOE enjoying a fast-paced experience from a point of view other than the terrestrial one. It is highly recommended to do it in the company of specialized companies that provide the necessary security and equipment, as well as the knowledge of the natural environment.   

Closer to the sea is Somao, Exemplary Town of Asturias in 2020 and recognized for its colourful and elegant Indian architecture. A set of different villas and palaces of marked colonial style tell us the glorious return of some Asturian emigrants to America in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their villas and the public works of which they were patrons, like the church, the schools or the social centre (old cinema) made a unique cosmopolitan atmosphere flourish in this small town in the heart of the Central Coast of Asturias.
