This vast territory, still unknown to the general public, extends from the fertile valleys of the Nora and Piloña rivers, an area recognized for cider production, to the high mountains of the Redes and Ponga Natural Park that separate Asturias from the Plateau. A region of contrasts where it is possible to observe the rutting and enter the depths of an old mine in the same morning.

In the upper basin of the Nalón River, still far from the Cantabrian Sea, the landscape is dominated by a lush forest of oaks, ash trees and beech trees where the fauna finds its ideal habitat. Brown bears, wolves, deer and the fascinating, but unfortunately scarce, grouse inhabit the NATURAL PARK OF REDES. Land of exuberant nature dotted with reservoirs and waterfalls that invites you to travel along the multiple existing trails, such as the familiar Route of Alba. As well it is also a land of gastronomic traditions, such as the old Casín cheese, or artisans, like the work of the Asturian madreñas.

Apart from hiking and WILDLIFE OBSERVATION, this is also a destination for snow lovers. Following the course of the River Aller, in the valley parallel to the Nalón, you can easily reach winter sports stations where the offer of activities is varied and adapted to all levels. 

The valleys of the Nalón and the Caudal also tell us about the mining and industrial past of Asturias, the so-called Mining Basins. A unique natural environment considered a Protected Landscape today due, among other aspects, to the specificity and mineral richness of the soils that favours an enormous plant diversity: carballedas, beeches, rebollares and alisedas alternated with fertile pastures.
