Central Coast

On both sides of Cabo de Peñas, the northernmost point of the region, extends the central coast of Asturias. It is the coastal strip between the mouth of the Nalón, to the west, and the beaches of Caravia at the foot of the Sierra del Sueve, in the eastern area.

Connected by multiple roads and paths, including the Northern Saint James Way, the Central Coast merges the sea and the land offering visitors a wide range of possibilities to enjoy Asturias. A territory where the Cantabrian Sea is always present. In the fishing villages, as in LASTRES, Tazones or Candás, where the steep streets always lead to the fishing port and invite you to taste the best products from the sea. In the coastal paths that run over the cliffs, offering walkers spectacular panoramic views of the coastal rasa where the sea rivals in prominence with the sky and the clouds. In the slender lighthouses, privileged spectators of memorable sunrises and sunsets that change their light at every moment.

The mountains are also present in this region, another banner of Asturias. This is the case of the SIERRA DEL SUEVE where the hills rise vertiginously, as if they were watchtowers, on the coast of Caravia. In fact, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Spain, the Mirador del Fitu is in this mountain range.

On the central coast, the rivers meander placidly through the valleys until they pour their waters into the Cantabrian Sea forming spectacular landscapes that alternate between lush forests, pomaradas or marshes such as the Natural Reserve of the Ría de Villaviciosa. On the banks of these rivers are historic villas such as PRAVIA or Villaviciosa, with a regal past and monumental aspect, which welcome visitors among their cobbled streets and medieval buildings.
